Dmitry is a native of Ukraine. He studied piano and music theory at the State Music School and State Music College in Vinnitsa, Ukraine, and music composition at the Gorky State Conservatory in Russia. During his studies, Dmitry wrote a number of compositions for various instruments, ensembles, some full orchestra works, and several compositions for drama theater.
In 1991 Dmitry moved to the United States, where he now resides. Dmitry plays and writes piano, chamber, orchestra, and electronic music.
Dmitry’s recent compositions include:
- Deceptive March, a chamber score commissioned by Stars of the 21st Century, an annual festival in NYC
- Baroque Game, a full orchestra score for ballet commissioned by the American Ballet Theatre in New York for its 60th Anniversary season
- Adagio for Ballet Class, a piano piece written and self-performed for the motion picture Center Stage
- Post No Scriptum, a chamber score for ballet also commissioned by the American Ballet Theatre
- Dark on Light, music for piano, harp, and strings; privately commissioned
- Pulsar, an electronic composition for ballet commissioned by American Ballet Theatre
- Broadway Bound, a chamber score commissioned for ballet by Minnesota Dance Theatre. Production title: Now and Then
- electronic music score for When Cuba Opens Up, a drama by Benjie Aerenson
Dmitry has played for over 20 years for Ballet, Modern, and Character classes at ABT Main Company, ABT Studio Company, JKO School, and Eliot Feld’s fabulous Ballet Tech School – all within the same building, 890 Broadway, NYC.
Mr. Polischuk is also an author of the absolutely unique Educational Music Theory Course, specifically designed for dancers. His “Music and Dance” was taught at David Howard’s dance teacher’s training program as well at American Ballet Theatre summer training program.
